Are you superstitious?
Sometimes… I try not to learn about all the different superstitions different cultures have because I travel so much- I’d never be able to do *anything* without it being considered bad luck somewhere!
What did you dream to become as an adult when you were a child?
A hermit!
Which are your favorite readings?
Children’s fantasy like the Wizard of Oz books, Narnia… and science fiction like Ray Bradbury and Isaac Asimov.  Also humorous science fiction like the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy books by Douglas Adams.
Which is the book you have loved the most so far?
There have been different books at various points in my life which have been important to me; I remember really loving Joseph Campbell’s “The Power of Myth”, and “Iron John” by Robert Bly.
Did your family influence your choices?
My family always gave me the opportunity of trying many different things; I had a great education through the public school system, and outside of that I had dance classes, violin and piano lessons, learned how to make pottery and stained-glass, went to music camp in the summers… I loved that!  When it came time to make the decision to become a singer, I knew why I was doing it because I had tried so many other things.
Was music a vocation?
It was a hobby until I decided to study science… then it became clear that I really wanted to be a singer.
What’s missing in your life today?
I miss my parents being so happy about the life I’m experiencing.
The greatest disappointment?
Haven’t had one yet…!
Which is your most cherished memory?
Personal or business?  Personal would be the day I met my husband, business the first time I heard a baroque orchestra (Concerto Köln) and I got to sing with them!
How important is money to you?
Fortunately I have never had to take a job for the money.  The career is very expensive to maintain, as one is travelling all the time, etc. so of course if one is paid well, so much the better.  However if a project is with someone I don’t feel I work well with, I won’t accept it no matter what the fee.
Which is the item you like spending money on the most?
SHOES!!!!!
Do you collect anything?
My husband and I collect model frogs.
Do you have a recurrent dream?
Not anymore… I used to dream I could fly- that was fun!
What are you afraid of the most?
I’m pretty much at peace with my life, so I don’t feel I have any great fears.  The most important thing for me is to enjoy each day and know that the people I love know that I love them.
Which is your most ambitious dream?

To take a month off for vacation some day!
The moment you felt the proudest?
I don’t really feel proud of anything; I think I’m happy when I’m satisfied with a performance or a day well spent, then concentrate on doing the same or better with the next day.
Your biggest challenge?
Right now?  Learning how to sing in Russian!!!!
What or who makes you feel embarrassed?
Coming from Alaska, I guess that would have to be Sarah Palin…
Which is the situation you consider the most relaxing?
I like the *idea* of lying on the beach with a margarita in my hand, but ultimately I guess I relax more when I’m out working in the garden.
Your favorite subject at school?
Choir, orchestra and big-band!
Favorite city?
Fairbanks, Alaska… followed by Paris, France.
Favorite color?

That varies… green, blue, red… 
Favorite flower?
The forget-me-not, Alaska’s state flower.
The holiday or the trip you’d like to take?

The one I’m taking in August- halibut fishing in Alaska with my husband and my best friend!

Day.

Steak for breakfast, 9 or 10 o’clock voice lesson, nap, shopping, internet surfing, bed.

The film you love the most?
Not really a film, but I love my DVD of Cirque du Soleil’s “Quidam”.  Favorite movie… I guess the “Wizard of Oz”.
Your favorite season?

Spring.
Which is the place where cooking is the worst ever?
Any Italian restaurant outside of Italy.  Period.
How would you define your relation with food ?
Difficult.
Your favourite dish?
Steak.
The dish you cook the best?
I make a good Tom Ka Gai soup, and also good Chicken Satay with Peanut sauce!
Red or white wine?
Red.
What’s never missing in your refrigerator?
Apples.
What’s your weakness in kitchen?

I don’t know how to prepare seafood.
What’s the soundtrack to your life?
There are hundreds… mostly symphonic Dvorak, Bruckner, Mahler, Mozart, Beethoven… also musical theater like “Evita”, though I can’t listen to it without getting horribly depressed.
Your favourite singer?
Bobby McFerrin.
What would you want someone who doesn’t know your voice to listen to?
Of mine?  Probably my newest CD, “Pyrotechnics”- I’m very happy with that one!
How did your voice change through the years and how do you take care of it, choosing the roles and the repertoire to perform?
I think it’s gotten a bit richer in color, and I know I’m more comfortable in the higher range than I ever was.  I just try to keep the entire range even by vocalizing every day, and try to find my voice in all my roles rather than imitate anyone else.
If you were granted the chance to chose a role, which one would it be?
I don’t know- there is so much repertoire out there that I don’t know yet- it always seems to find me when the time is right.
Which is the first record you ever bought?
Abba The Album!!!!!
How’s your attitude towards TV ?
I use it to distract myself if I have too much music running through my brain, but then when I’m really enjoying concentrating on a project I won’t even turn on the TV for weeks.
What do you do an hour prior to go on stage?
Vocalize.
What’s never missing in your dressing room?
Peanut butter!!!
What do you think of when looking at yourself in the mirror?

I like myself now- that wasn’t true when I was younger.
How would you prefer to die ?
Quickly, painlessly, and knowing that the people I love know I love them.
