“Cold Mountain” debutta al Music Academy of the West Festival

Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon‘s International Opera Award-winning work Cold Mountain debuts at the Music Academy of The West Festival on next August 2nd.
Based on Charles Frazier’s best-selling Civil War era epic historical novel, the opera tells the story of W.P. Inman, a Confederate soldier who, after being treated for wounds he received during the battle of Petersburg, chooses to desert the army and make his way back to his beloved Ada Monroe. Cold Mountain, set during the American Civil War — the pivotal conflict in the history of the U.S.A. — is the story of a soldier who wonders whether the violence he has endured has in some way ruined him and made him unworthy of love. Cold Mountain, like The Odyssey, on which the novel is loosely based, has at its center a transformative journey. The cast is full of young, interesting singers, among which there are Evan Bravos and Anneliese Klenetsky, in the roles of the two protagonists. Daniela Candillari conducts the Academy Festival Orchestra and the production is directed by James Darrah.
